5-Tips for Giving Birth During the Pandemic COVID-19

“Breath, You Got This Mama!”

My husband and I welcomed our son on March 22, 2020. We literally gave birth at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Life during my pregnancy before COVID-19 was so normal in a sense. Around the 38th week of my pregnancy was when things changed in the nation for everyone. Importantly, I wanted to share with you mommies how I prepared quickly to give birth two weeks after a pandemic hit. Here are some tips for giving birth during the Pandemic COVID-19.

Tip #1 For Giving Birth During The Pandemic COVID-19- (Request Or Form A Relationship With A DOULA)

Doulas was a service that the hospital where I gave birth at offered. Whereas it was a service that could be requested when arriving for delivery. I was so blessed that my doula was a referral from one of my church members. Because she was an employee of that particular hospital, we were able to schedule her. Having a doula especially during COVID made my husband and I feel more secure and protected during the birthing process. Furthermore, she had our best interest at heart during this situation as COVID birthing experiences changed.

Tip #2 For Giving Birth During the COVID-19 Pandemic-(Modify Your Birthing Plan By Implementing COVID Procedures)

Before the pandemic, I had my birthing plan all planned out. Nonetheless, certain elements of my birthing experience was changed due to safety precautions during labor. In my opinion, this is one of the most important tips for giving birth during the Pandemic COVID-19. As a result, somethings to consider are no visitors in the delivery room, visiting during your stay, or doctor visits.  Especially, make sure you pack your hubby snacks, because we weren’t allowed to order outside food or delivery. As a rule, you will have to become acclimated to wearing a mask during delivery. Due to COVID-19 hospital tours before birth and professional photos during hospital stays where no longer available. Importantly, talk with your health care provider about the changes during COVID-19.

Tip#3 For Giving Birth During The COVID-19 Pandemic-(Collection of Scriptures)

Indeed, prayers and my faith is what got me through my pregnancy. These scriptures truly gave me peace during delivery. I believe that God had it planned for me to give birth during the pandemic and he would guide me through this experience (Esther 4:14). I put together a collection of index cards that I could easily remember and recite during labor. Some of my favorites during labor were Psalms 46:5, Isaiah 43:2, II Corinthians 12:9, 1 Samuel 1:27, and Philippians 4:13.

Tip #4 For Giving Birth During The COVID-19 Pandemic-(Positive Affirmations)

When I used my words of affirmations it seems as if I have super powers! First, I laminated the cards and use them throughout my entire pregnancy. On Sunday afternoons I would go to pregnancy yoga downtown with other expecting moms. Without a doubt, the words of affirmation builded up that internal confidence that I needed to give birth during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Tip #5 For Giving Birth During The COVID-19 Pandemic- (Plugins Scented Oil & Music Playlist)

My best friend shared this tip with me. I use certain plugins within my home as the seasons change. I normally grab them from Bath & Body Works throughout the year. I brought a plugin to put in the wall during delivery . This was to fill the room with the same scent we used within our home. We wanted our son to be born into a setting that smelled like us and his new home. Creating  a baby playlist of relaxing music that set the mood within the delivery room also release claim and relaxing energy within the room. I included a detailed list of some of my favorite baby items and products here.

In Conclusion

In conclusion mommies, remember this is what your body was created to do and God will see you through this experience! Stay encouraged, and I pray you have the most peaceful and amazing delivery. I give full details about my birthing experience during the Pandemic COVID-19 here.
